All dentists can treat patients with Invisalign, but for the best results patients should choose an orthodontist due to their experience in re-alignment of teeth. This is especially important if your case is more complicated. All orthodontists are also qualified dentists, but not all dentists are qualified as orthodontists.
The cost of treatment varies because the treatment is individual for each patient. As a guide, the investment ranges from £3000 – £5000 based on a 12 – 18 month length of treatment. Patients who only need minor adjustments have a correspondingly lower cost which can be as low as £1500. We offer monthly payment plans with interest free finance options. Insurance cover such as health, dental or orthodontic policies can also be used towards the cost of your treatment. We want to make treatment affordable to all our patients. Treatments include Invisalign Full, i7, Lite and Teen.
Invisible orthodontics can give you the smile and confidence you are looking for without the hassle and interruptions of old style fixed metal braces. Aligners need to be worn for 22 hours each day and need to be taken out when eating or drinking, unless you are only having cold water. If a patient does not follow the necessary wear time they may need to extend their treatment duration or not achieving the most optimal result. You can actually see your new smile before commencing your treatment thanks to our ClinCheck 3D digital smile simulation at our practice.
Your treatment plan will be based on a set of aligners which will gradually move your teeth to their new ideal positions. You will to wear your aligners for around 14 days before moving up to the next aligner in the series. Re-alignment of teeth needs to be done gradually as rapid changes can affect the dental root which can affect stability.
Clear braces feel smooth and comfortable, and as treatment is gentle there is little if any pain or soreness, by comparison fixed metal braces can feel painful when first fitted and each time they are adjusted. It may can take a few days to get used to wearing your aligners, however patients are excited and surprised at how invisible the trays are when first putting them on. It is easy to get used to your new routine, especially when you know your new smile is developing.
It’s a personal choice if you tell anyone you are having orthodontic treatment. Aligners may make your teeth appear more shiny but most of our patients complete their treatment without anyone even noticing or commenting.
A few patients find that their speech can sound a bit different for a few days, but this quickly returns to normal, and you may find that your mouth produces more saliva but this also returns to normal fast and is caused by your mouth thinking that the aligners are food. Some patients would also need to have tooth coloured attachments placed on their teeth if one or more teeth need additional rotation or re-alignment. This enables the aligners to grip and complete the necessary alignment successfully. Attachments are tooth coloured so is also virtually invisible and is removed at the end of your treatment.
Cleaning your teeth and aligners is easy and quick as you simply remove your aligners and brush and floss in the regular way. Fixed metal braces can lead to discolouration of tooth surfaces if proper brushing isn’t carried out. Aligners can be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and small quantity of tooth paste. Dissolving cleaning tablets can also be used.
You have the freedom to eat and drink all of your favourite foods during your treatment, as your aligners are completely removable. You would not need to restrict or change your diet at all, unlike patients who have fixed braces. You would take our your aligners when eating and drinking to ensure proper hygiene and to look after your aligners. They can’t be worn when biting or chewing – as they are not designed for this. You’ll also need to clean your teeth and aligners after each snack or meal or drink, unless you are only having cold water.
Your appointments will be every 6 – 8 weeks and you also need to continue visits to your dentist as normal. At your orthodontic appointments you will be given a box which contains 3 – 4 aligners for the next phase of your treatment.
After treatment retainers will need to be worn (as with any orthodontic treatment) in order to maintain results long term. We recommend and provide two types of retainers as part of your treatment. The first is a fixed retainer wire, this is attached behind your lower front teeth. Secondly the other retainer is a removable retainer which is worn at night and is similar to your Invisalign trays – this needs to be worn for two nights per week.
